Heart and Hand Ministries is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization, established March 14, 1997, sponsored by Olivet Baptist Church.  Our mission is to build up the structure of the family by supporting, strengthening and assisting families to establish stability in their lives.  We work with our families, not for them.

What is Heart & Hand Ministries?

Heart & Hand Ministries is a Bible based organization that assists families, giving them a “hand up and not a hand out.”  Families are encouraged to establish a relationship with God as their provider and acknowledge Him as the one who will give them a sense of self-worth and help them reach their full potential.

Heart and Hand ministries, founded in 1997, started with the Mary West House, a large single family unit that is now being used as a foster home.  Many Olivet members spent many hours renovating the property.  It had not been occupied for a long time and had been terribly vandalized.  We began with David West’s donation and the donation of the Dawson House, both former Olivet members. The Millie Bradley Complex, named in honor or Dr. Steve Kern’s mother, was purchased through a $30,000 grant from the Kirkpatrick Foundation.  The Earp homes were purchased with funds donated by an anonymous benefactor.  The West’s and the Earp’s have now gone home to be with the Lord.
We are currently able to assist between 6 and 8 families.

The Heart and Hand office is currently located close to Olivet in inner Oklahoma City.

An additional house was purchased with a donor loan allowing one family to make a purchase agreement with reduced rent to eventually become a homeowner.  Community Property Renovation (CPR) is a project we would like to expand by purchasing and renovating homes and allowing people who have been successful with our program to purchase with low payments.
Heart and Hand Thrift Center is now a major contributor to the ministry.

There are currently 6 families in residence.  Anna Abell, Women’s Director, counsels with each parent weekly.  The ladies are asked to set goals and save money toward a time when they leave.  We have strict rules requiring no drugs, alcohol or men in the homes.  The ladies and their children are required to attend church.  All of the ladies and the children who are presently in our homes have accepted the Lord as their Savior.

Many churches, in addition to Olivet,  have assisted with projects on behalf of Heart and Hand Ministries, including Council Road Baptist, Metropolitan Baptist, Putnam City Baptist, and others.

As of November, 2009, we have worked with upwards of l000 residents including parents and children.
